(ENT) – Otolaryngology

ENT (Otolaryngology) is a medical specialty focused on the diagnosis, treatment, and management of diseases and disorders of the ear, nose, throat, as well as related structures of the head and neck. ENT specialists, also known as otolaryngologists, are trained to handle a wide range of conditions, from common illnesses to complex surgical interventions.

ENT Specialties

General ENT

Objective: To diagnose and treat common conditions affecting the ear, nose, and throat.

Examples: Treatment of ear infections, nasal congestion, and throat infections.

Pediatric ENT

Objective: To manage ENT conditions in children, addressing both congenital and acquired disorders.

Examples: Treatment of ear infections, tonsillitis, and speech and language disorders.

Otology

Objective: To diagnose and treat conditions related to the ear, including hearing and balance disorders.

Examples: Treatment of hearing loss, tinnitus, and vertigo. Surgical procedures for cochlear implants and tympanoplasty (eardrum repair).

Rhinology

Objective: To treat disorders of the nose and sinuses.

Examples: Management of chronic sinusitis, nasal polyps, and deviated septum. Procedures like sinus surgery and septoplasty.

Laryngology

Objective: To address diseases and conditions affecting the larynx (voice box), including voice and swallowing disorders.

Examples: Treatment of hoarseness, laryngitis, vocal cord polyps, and swallowing difficulties.

Head and Neck Surgery

Objective: To treat benign and malignant tumors in the head and neck area, including cancers of the oral cavity, throat, and thyroid.

Examples: Surgical removal of head and neck cancers, thyroidectomy, and reconstruction of the head and neck after tumor removal.

Allergy and Immunology

Objective: To diagnose and manage allergies affecting the ear, nose, and throat.

Examples: Treatment of allergic rhinitis, hay fever, and allergic sinusitis with medications and immunotherapy.

Sleep Medicine

Objective: To diagnose and treat sleep disorders, particularly those affecting breathing.

Examples: Treatment of sleep apnea, snoring, and insomnia. Use of CPAP devices and surgical options like uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (UPPP).

Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery

Objective: To improve or restore the appearance and function of the face, including cosmetic and reconstructive procedures.

Examples: Rhinoplasty (nose reshaping), facelift surgery, and repair of facial fractures.

Voice Disorders

Objective: To treat voice disorders and conditions affecting speech.

Examples: Treatment of vocal cord dysfunction, stuttering, and professional voice training.

Minimally Invasive ENT Procedures

Objective: To perform diagnostic and therapeutic interventions with minimal recovery time.

Examples: Endoscopic sinus surgery, laser treatment for vocal cord lesions, and balloon sinuplasty.
